Laverne the Chicken had an exciting weekend. She was the sanctuary’s ambassador at the Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary Celebration in Pleasanton. Over 20,000 scouts from around the globe attended the daylong celebration at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.
Scouts who visited our booth were touched by Laverne’s story of survival. After petting and hugging Laverne, many scouts remarked about her beauty and bravery. One young Daisy Girl Scout was moved to tears when she met Laverne.
As you may remember, Laverne was attacked by a raccoon in a backyard coop in Pleasanton. The raccoon ripped her tongue, beak and comb off.
